Tom Spencer explains why two recent reports, which questioned the work ethics and significance of public affairs, have misunderstood the role of public affairs. According to Spencer, „the suspicion that falls on public affairs is a side-effect of the ‚fashionable‘ trend to oppose globalisation and big business“. Some of the criticism in the reports would prove a lack of understanding of the industry resulting in a „public affairs campaign against public affairs.“ Therefore, Tom Spencer concludes that „critics of certain campaigns must learn to win the arguments in democratic debate, rather than attacking the messengers.“
