UK minister calls for EU reform

Newly-appointed UK Minister for Europe, Peter Hain, issued "an appeal for plain speaking on Europe" in a commentary published in The Independent newspaper on 17 July. He argued it is necessary to "cut through the Eurospeak" in order to convince EU citizens of the benefits of the Union and gain their respect for its future development. Mr Hain's comments are directed at the European political elite as well as politicians and the media in his own country.
