Turkish ruling coalition leaders agreed on 4 September to debate constitutional reforms, necessary to meet EU membership criteria, at a special parliamentary session on 17 September. As many as 37 articles of the constitution, adopted under military rules in the 1980s, could be changed, including provisions on the ban of the use of the Kurdish language.
