Transport infrastructure an enlargement priority

Creating rapid and effective transport links between the current and future EU members is an essential part of the enlargement process. It is estimated that 91 billion euro will be necessary to upgrade priority transport infrastructures in Central and Eastern European by 2015. However, the candidate countries are not expected to be able to fork up the necessary funds from their public budgets, and will have to rely on the EU for funding.
