Prodi goes public with dissatisfaction over Verhofstadt

It has emerged that European Commission President Romano Prodi deliberately stayed away from the final press conference of last week's informal European Council in Ghent. Mr Prodi was said to be angry over Belgian Prime Minister Guy Verhofstadt's domination of the first press conference of the summit which he saw as diminishing the importance of his leadership role in the EU.
