Miller becomes Poland's new prime minister
Former communist Leszek Miller was appointed Poland's new prime minister by President Aleksander Kwasniewski on Thursday, 4 October. Mr Miller's Democratic Left Alliance (SLD) party won the largest number of seats in Poland's September 23 election but was left 15 seats short of a majority. His party is currently engaged in coalition talks with the Polish Peasants' Party (PSL) which could be completed as early as the weekend.
