Der Staatenbund Serbien und Montenegro ist zuversichtlich, dass der Weg nun frei ist für ein Stabilisierungs- und Assoziierungsabkommen mit der EU.

In the first half of April 2005, the Commission intends to publish a feasibility study on the opening of negotiations on a Stabilisation and Association Agreement (SAA) with Serbia and Montenegro. The SAA is a key step towards potential EU membership for the Western Balkans states. 

According to Enlargement Commissioner Olli Rehn, until then Serbia should „achieve significant progress in full co-operation with the Hague tribunal and the extraditions must continue“.

Serbian Prime Minister Vojislav Kostunica has said that „we have direct proof […] that the form of co-operation which is currently taking place […] will be enough to achieve a positive study“.
