Illegal interception of e-mails inflicts severe blow to EU-Turkey relations
Relations between the EU and Turkey were seriously strained the last week when an affair over confidential e-mails between the Commission and the EU Delegation in Ankara that were published in Turkey. Enlargement Commissioner, Günter Verheugen, has called upon Turkey's Ambassador to the EU, Nihat Akyol, to formally protest against the publication of the EU's internal correspondence.
