EU pushes globalisation with a 'social face'

The Commission adopted a communication on 18 July that aims to promote core labour standards and social governance at the global level. Commissioners Lamy and Diamantopoulou see the measure as part of an attempt to "rebalance the system to help promote social development and ensure that globalisation benefits all people and all countries." Particular emphasis is placed in the communication on Commission support for the central role that the International Labour Organisation (ILO) will play in this process.
